This is a paper from a 2008 Higher Education Academy Conference and is an evaluation of four case studies examining assessment dialogues. The findings support Gibbs and Simpson's (2004) claim that formative assessment is one of the most powerful tools to enhance student learning. Opening up dialogue empowered the students and fostered engagement in the feedback process.
