The success of Higher Education institutions (HEIs) in the UK is based on both their high degree of autonomy compared with other countries, and the good governance framework that is in place. The Remuneration Committee is an important part of that governance framework. This practice note sets out key elements of the work of Remuneration Committees and has been developed to enable institutions to consider the material and adapt as appropriate to their own needs and outlook. By setting out the key points around a remuneration approach and raising pertinent questions, institutions can use this practice note to develop a strategy that both fits the organisation’s character and addresses the demands and expectations of other stakeholders
