A level playing field? Students' experiences of assessment in stem disciplines

A paper from the STEM Annual Conference 2012.

This paper presents initial results from a project which aims to examine why international students perform less well in assessments than UK student not just in final exams or overall course marks but also across the variety of assessment tasks that comprise the continually assessed components of many courses. The focus is on students in their first year of study in a range of scientific disciplines at the University of Edinburgh at both undergraduate and taught masters level.
