Northumbria University - Digital literacies and cultural/organisation change - Strategic Excellence Initiative

Northumbria University’s mission is to create and apply knowledge for the benefit of individuals communities and the economy. This project aims to support Northumbria’s ambition by helping understand staff/student digital literacy and capability in order to inform a Digital Literacy Adoption programme supported by a menu of development and enhancement opportunities.

The main aims of the project are to:

  • Drive a creative innovative and digital literate University body that engages with and responds to the learning technology opportunities suitable for a modern digital world
  • Identify staff and student digital development needs to provide a competent and confident academic workforce to deliver the Northumbria University’s 2025 Vision

The scope of this project includes:

  • Investigation/exploration and identification of baseline current digital literacy for Northumbria student and academic staff;
  • Identification of staff and student development needs
  • Creation and implementation of digital engagement initiatives providing a case study to monitor digital adoption.
  • Launching of digital literacy adoption programme and campaign

Success of the project will be demonstrated by motivated staff able to adopt digital technologies in learning strategies beyond Northumbria agreed minimum standards and ideally who are creative and innovative in optimising the use of digital technologies to design deliver and assess modules and programmes. Our students will be digitally creative innovative and entrepreneurial Northumbria global graduates.
