Ravensbourne - Diversity in graduate employability - Strategic Excellence Initiative

What the project is?

“Diversity through Graduate Employability” is a cross institutional initiative at Ravensbourne part funded by the HEA Vice Chancellors Strategic Initiative Fund.  The aim of the project is to improve the graduate employability outcomes of the diverse student population at Ravensbourne through a number of different activity streams.

Connect is the main stream of activity which facilitates extra-curricular interdisciplinary working amongst students.  Interdisciplinary student teams are being given the chance to pitch for a number of Connect Awards in March 2016 and offered mentoring to help them develop their team ideas projects business plans or concepts.  All students have been given different coloured lanyards by course to help them identify potential collaborators from different disciplines.  Connect complements a number of activities delivered through Ravensbourne Plus – a co-curricular industry-led programme that runs alongside each of our undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Ravensbourne to fully prepare students for employment.

What the project hopes to achieve?

  • To gain a better understanding of graduate employability outcomes through the further development of diversity metrics
  • To ensure that employability support services are aligned with student needs
  • To increase the numbers of students undertaking activities which improve their confidence and employability skills (for example through Connect)
  • To improve graduate employability outcomes
