This report summarises the findings of the first ever survey of disabled students registered on English Literature English Language and Creative Writing courses in the UK Higher Education system and is illustrated throughout by vivid quotations in the students' own words. It also includes a checklist of ten relatively straightforward things departments can do to help students. The survey on which this report is based was commissioned by the English Subject Centre in 2007. Its aim was to gather information from disabled students both about their experience of studying English and about pedagogical social structural and technological factors that may have helped or hindered them.
