Student Engagement Evidence Summary

This report was carried out as part of the Higher Education Academy Student Engagement Project. The report distils from the author’s review of the student engagement literature some of the key statements that can be made with a reasonable degree of confidence about engagement. Bearing in mind the diversity of understandings of the term “student engagement” claims should be read and interpreted with caution extending implications only as far as the context and constraints allow. We categorise these statements into the three dimensions of engagement we identified in that report: student engagement in individual student learning; student engagement with structure and process; student engagement with identity.
