Sustainable institutions: An evidence-informed review of good practice

This project investigates the progress universities around the world are making in becoming sustainable institutions. It provides an evidence-based review of current practice in the form of a systematic literature review and five detailed case studies. Many universities have taken action on sustainability for over 30 years, conducting research to reveal the scope of environmental challenges and potential solutions.

Many governments are expecting universities to take a central role in re-skilling people in the transition to a low carbon economy. The youth climate movement is an indication of the strength of feeling many young people have about the environment and concern for the future. This research makes a timely contribution to understanding the work still needed for universities to become sustainable institutions.
