University East Anglia - Measurement of teaching excellence - Strategic Excellence Initiative

What the project is?

The project will identify innovative practice at UEA and elsewhere in using metrics to measure teacher excellence.  It will inform the development of academic promotions criteria for academic staff including for the award of discretionary increments with respect to learning and teaching at UEA and for dissemination.  Project success will mean first the adoption of new criteria and guidance for academic promotions at UEA and second the dissemination of project findings and the new guidance across the sector.

What the project hopes to achieve?

The project expects to have benefits both within and outside UEA by improving the way high quality teaching and learning is described in relation to the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) and in the context of a range of disciplines and subjects across the HE sector.  Specifically it will offer a better way of using data about student attainment and learning behaviour to exemplify and describe the impact of high quality teaching in a more systematic way than is done at present.
