Advance HE to co-deliver a key element of a refreshed CPD programme at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University

28 Mar 2024 | Advance HE Open to all academics at higher education providers in Taiwan, the English Medium Instruction (EMI) CPD programme will support the national target for English – ‘Bilingual 2030’

Advance HE will work with National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, an Advance HE member for over six years, to co-deliver the University’s Certificate in Professional Development for English Medium Instruction Academics in Higher Education (EMIHE).

The programme is an integral part of the refreshed 2024-25 NCYU HEAT (Higher Education Accreditation for Teaching) suite which is a fundamental building block of NYCU’s Teaching and Learning strategy and route to Advance HE Fellowship opportunities for its staff.

EMIHE is fully aligned to the Professional Standards Framework 2023 and participants in the programme will be able to use it as evidence of their CPD in Fellowship applications.

The emphasis on English Medium Instruction (EMI) supports, ‘Bilingual 2030’, a national policy in Taiwan guided by a two-fold vision, “helping Taiwan’s workforce connect with the world” and “attracting international enterprises to Taiwan; enabling Taiwanese industries to connect to global markets and create high-quality jobs.”

Given the importance of the programme as part of the Taiwan higher education sector’s contribution to Bilingual 2030, EMIHE is open to academic staff from all higher education providers in Taiwan.

Regine Lin, Director of NYCU HEAT and a Senior Fellow, said, “We are delighted that Advance HE will co-deliver the Certificate in Professional Development for EMI Academics in Higher Education, which we've tailored from Advance HE’s flagship Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. EMIHE will be delivered by an interdisciplinary faculty team from local and international universities.

“We’re very pleased to offer this CPD opportunity to colleagues at all universities in Taiwan. I’m sure they will welcome the opportunity to begin their own Fellowship journey as well as make an important individual commitment to the national Bilingual 2030 policy.”

Ian Hall, Advance HE Head of Membership (International), said, “We are very pleased to support this innovative and exciting collaboration. NCYU has invested significantly in the HEAT programme and in its commitment to embracing the Professional Standards Framework. It’s great to see them sharing this opportunity with other colleagues in the sector.”

NYCU currently has 164 Fellows across all four categories of Fellowship. It consistently ranks as one of the best universities in Taiwan and among the top 50 universities in Asia.
