Advance HE delivers learning and teaching programme to top Thai university

13 Sep 2019 | Advance HE Academic staff at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) in Bangkok, Thailand, are benefitting from a programme to enhance their teaching skills in higher education.

KMUTT is one of Thailand’s highest-ranked institutions and is keen to develop and recognise its teaching staff.

Advance HE is delivering a Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (CLTHE) to help support the training and development of 60 teaching staff. Following completion, it is expected the staff will apply to become HEA Fellows, offering them an international recognition for their commitment to teaching and learning.

The CLTHE is a practical programme underpinned by modern theories of pedagogy and encourages staff who are experts in their field to improve the quality of their teaching skills based upon pedagogical research.

As part of the contract, Advance HE is also delivering a three-day Teaching Skills Masterclass aimed at upskilling teaching assistants who support learning at KMUTT.

Ian Hall, Advance HE’s Head of International Membership, said,

“The CLTHE programme is a significant investment by KMUTT in its teaching staff to help improve the quality of teaching practice, and the experience of their students.

“We are also delighted to support the development of teaching assistants at KMUTT. This is the first time we have worked with staff in this role in South East Asia and will allow them to better support student learning.”

Dr Krittika Tanprasert, Director of the Learning Institute at KMUTT, said,

“KMUTT are committed to developing our staff and improving the experience of our students. Advance HE’s CLTHE programme offers a way of doing this, and recognising those staff against international standards.

“We are also delighted to support our teaching assistants, who fulfil an essential role in supporting teaching at KMUTT and we are proud to invest in their continued development.”

Two modules of both programmes have been delivered to date, with a final module scheduled for January 2020.

The CLTHE is aimed at higher education providers who are looking to develop a robust and high-quality professional development qualification for staff involved in teaching and supporting learning. Find out more about establishing a CLTHE in your institution.
