Advance HE members network in Thailand

11 Mar 2024 | Advance HE Universities met to address common challenges and acknowledge the positive impact of Fellowship

Advance HE held a network meeting for colleagues from five of its member institutions in Thailand last week.

The members network meeting was an opportunity for the group to discuss global HE trends, common challenges and opportunities facing Thai higher education providers. They also explored ways in which Advance HE could further support the mission of Thai institutions with its global network of members. Thai members provided feedback on Advance HE’s work and it plans to support them so that their institutional strategies best benefit from membership.

The network was hosted at Srinakharinwirot University (SWU), in central Bangkok. Srinkharinwirot University has collaborated extensively on Fellowship with Advance HE and it now has more than 400 staff recognised in the different categories of Fellowship. The University indicates that its investment in teaching this been a very significant contributory factor in a 5* ranking for them for Academic Development by QA.

Staff from SWU were joined at the meeting by colleagues from Walailak University, Suranaree University of Technology, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University and Mahidol University.

The engagement of Thai universities with Advance HE – particularly with the Fellowship programme – has resulted in Thailand having the second highest number of Fellows outside of the UK, with Thai institutions seeing strong benefits and being recognised in international league tables for their work in this space.

Professor Pansiri Phansuwan, Vice President for Academic Affairs at SWU and a Principal Fellow, said, “Srinakharinwirot is delighted to bring together members from across Thailand to discuss our collective work on supporting strong teaching. This work is very important to us, and we are very pleased to see such strong impact from it. We look forward to continuing our collaboration.”

Advance HE’s Head of Membership (International), Ian Hall, said, “It is a pleasure to be able to engage with our strong and growing membership in Thailand. There is such inspirational work being conducted, particularly in teaching, in Thailand and it’s a pleasure to be able to share this work with our global network.”
