Ash Casey, PhD, MSc, PGCE, BSc, SFHEA is the programme leader for the MSc in Education with QTS (Physical Education) at Loughborough. Trained as physical education teacher in the 1990s, Ash enjoyed a 15-year career as a secondary school teacher where his passion to improve the physical education experiences of young people was nurtured, firstly through a part-time Master’s in physical education and secondly during a part-time PhD in physical education and sport pedagogy.
His desire to work and support young people blossomed into a drive to empower and support new and established teachers alike to transform their practices and change the physical education experiences of those in their care. Ash took up his first lecturing post in 2009 and completed his PhD in January 2010. Having served as course leader for both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University of Bedfordshire, Ash joined the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University in March 2014.
Since then, Ash has received five teaching awards and served on several teaching-focused working groups in the university and beyond. His work and passion for change in physical education have resulted in him supporting a number of international bodies in curriculum reform and staff professional development. Ash’s research interests are in Models-based Practice, teacher professional development and learning, and the use of technology and social media in teacher development and student learning.
Ash is the series editor for the Routledge Focus on Sport Pedagogy, has co-authored/edited five monographs and over 100 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters and conference presentations.
