Hanya Pielichaty is an Associate Professor at the University of Lincoln with expertise across sports, equity and education. Hanya’s feminist pedagogical roots grew out of 20 years competing as an elite footballer (West Bromwich Albion FC and Lincoln City FC). Playing at a time when it was unusual for girls to kick a ball, her experiences as ‘other’ within a male-dominated sphere have shaped her ontological approach to this day. Hanya uses her experiences to be an advocate for gender justice.
Teaching across male-dominated sports business programmes, Hanya has sought to create opportunities to challenge gender imbalance within education and the wider sporting sector. Hanya has created and carved out meaningful spaces for students and colleagues alike to engage with education in an equitable, inclusive and transformational way. The international Critical Pedagogies in Sport network and the Inclusive Education Resource Hub are two creations that demonstrate Hanya’s strategic leadership and positive impact on the profession.
