Jean-Baptiste (JB) RG Souppez is a Senior Teaching Fellow and the Learning Enhancer for the Mechanical, Biomedical and Design Engineering department at Aston University, and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

He supports colleagues at Aston University and beyond in their professional growth towards professional recognition with Advance HE in his role as a Research Inspired Teaching Excellence (RITE) mentor. He is also an accreditor of higher education courses on behalf of two engineering professional bodies. He was awarded several institutional and international awards for the quality of his teaching and learning resources.

This outstanding teaching quality is supported by his published pedagogical research, aimed at impacting student outcomes by fostering innovative pedagogies related to (i) technology-enhanced learning and the virtual learning environment to empower diverse students, (ii) interdisciplinary pedagogies, (iii) real world learning and authentic assessments to support employability, and (iv) the implementation of learning and teaching strategies for diversity and inclusion.

Indeed, his excellence in learning and teaching resulted in appointments as visiting professor on Erasmus Mundus joint master’s programmes, leading the development and harmonisation of the learning and teaching practices, the success of which contributed to his invitation as part of the Erasmus+ Key Action 2: Cooperation for Innovation and Exchange of Good Practices.

This supports the development of excellence by impacting educators worldwide and advancing the teaching profession in higher education at an international level, with particular respect to enhancing and unifying pedagogical practices in highly international joint postgraduate courses welcoming highly diverse students. These extensive experiences underpin his commitment to ongoing professional development and highly collaborative and reflective practice, often driven by an action-research methodology, to seek innovative and transformative pedagogies that better student outcomes and contribute to advances in the teaching profession in higher education.
