Lorraine Cale is a Professor in Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy and the Director of Teacher Education in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University. She is a former physical educator, a current physical education (PE) teacher educator, and an active researcher, with her teaching and research interests and expertise centring on health-related learning in PE and the promotion of healthy active lifestyles within schools.

Through her work, Lorraine has made a significant contribution to student teacher outcomes and the development of PE policy and practice, and teacher education in particular, impacting the teaching of PE and PE teacher education locally, nationally and internationally. For example, Lorraine was an invited member (and Chair for three years) of the National PE Expert Group, a group initially funded by the Department for Education to provide advice and guidance to teacher education providers, trainees, teachers and schools on the National Curriculum and teaching policy and practice. Lorraine has also formerly served as an elected member of the Executive Committee for the UK’s Association for Physical Education and is an honoured member of the association in recognition of her significant contribution to the organisation’s aims and objectives.

She has furthermore received other awards and accolades in recognition of her work and influence at an institutional and national level. Recently this has included joining the prestigious list of international ‘PE Scholars’ invited to deliver the annual ‘Scholar Lecture’ at the British Educational Research Association PE and Sport Pedagogy Invisible College.
