Graham Bird is a physical geographer and currently Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor – Teaching and Learning at Bangor University. He is an active researcher in the field of environmental geochemistry and an award-winning teacher whose teaching includes classroom-, field- and laboratory-based activities.

His commitment to teaching has seen him awarded Advance HE Principal Fellowship. His teaching and work with colleagues is grounded in taking a collaborative and solutions-focused approach. As a leader of teaching and learning, he has led and delivered projects that have enhanced teaching and support for teaching within Bangor University, including the development of new foundation year programmes, procurement of digital teaching resources and the use of learning analytics.

Key outcomes from these projects have included the provision of new routes to higher education, improved accessibility of learning materials and enhanced, data-led approaches to supporting student retention and progression. In addition, he has led and contributed to national-level work focused on teaching enhancement, for example as a member of HEFCW’s Student Opportunity and Achievement Committee and as Chair of the 2022 QAA Subject Benchmark Statement Review for Geography.
