National Teaching Fellow 2005 Sally is Professor in Computing Education  in the Computing Laboratory at the University of Kent. Together with course team colleagues, she has published a series of papers on classroom innovations, focusing on teaching effectiveness and student learning. More recently she has pioneered a new form of academic development, bringing together practitioners who teach the same course, but in different institutions, in a Disciplinary Commons. This has two aims: * to document and share knowledge about teaching and student learning in the UK, and * to establish practices for the scholarship of teaching by making it public, peer-reviewed, and amenable for future use and development by other educators: creating a teaching-appropriate document of practice equivalent to the research-appropriate journal paper. Sally is a Fellow of the Staff & Educational Development Association, a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Advance HE recognises there are different views and approaches to teaching and learning, as such we encourage sharing of practice, without advocating or prescribing specific approaches. NTF and CATE awards recognise teaching excellence in a particular context. The profiles featured are self-submitted by award winners.
