Alan was Director of the Doctoral School at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU from 2015 until he retired in December 2019. Prior to that he was Director of the Graduate School at the University of East London (UEL) for eight years. In these roles he introduced a number of new EDI policies and practices to support PGR students.
At both ARU and UEL he was a member of the institutional Athena Swan SAT leading on aspects of PGR and data analysis. He also read and commented on draft institutional and department applications and chaired mock-review panels.
Since 2016 Alan has served as both a Panellist and Panel Chair for Athena Swan. In 2019 was appointed a Charters Associate for Advance HE.
He is looking forward to working with Advance HE and wider sector Colleagues to help implement and develop the recommendations of the Athena Swan review in relation to the application and review process.
