Malcolm Cutt

After completing a law degree at the University of Edinburgh, Malcolm trained as a Chartered Accountant with Whitelaw Wells & Co in Edinburgh, then moved on to work for one of the then “big eight” accountancy firms, which is now part of KPMG.

After a brief spell in financial services, Malcolm took up a senior finance role at the then Queen Margaret College in 1989, and has remained with the institution, which is now Queen Margaret University, ever since. He was appointed to the role of Director of Finance in 2009, and to the expanded role of Director of Operations & Finance in 2012. As well as Finance, Malcolm has senior management responsibility for Human Resources, Strategic Planning, Development, Marketing and Communications.

One of the more interesting projects Malcolm has been involved in was to manage the financial elements of the University’s move to a £100 million new-build campus near Musselburgh in 2007. He is currently leading on the financial aspects of the development of a food & drink innovation park adjacent to the University campus, which is part-funded by the Edinburgh & South East Scotland City Region Deal. 

Malcolm has served on a number of higher education sector groups, including the UK-wide Financial Sustainability Strategy Group. He is a past Chair of the Scottish Universities Finance Directors’ Group, and is currently the Scottish representative on the British Universities Finance Directors’ Group Executive.
