Professor Abby Cathcart

Abby is the Director of the QUT Academy of Learning and Teaching in Australia where her portfolio includes leadership of Academic Development, Evaluations, Academic Integrity, HEA fellowship, Awards, and Expert Peer Review.

Abby is a Principal Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and Advance HE’s Global Strategic Advisor (Australasia).  She has worked with staff at institutions in China, Taiwan, Australia and Thailand in designing professional development programs, including pathways to HEA fellowship. 

Abby was awarded the QUT David Gardiner Teacher of the Year in 2015 for her leadership in learning and teaching in QUT Business School and is the recipient of three national Australian Awards for University Teaching (Citation, Teaching Excellence Award, and Program Award). She co-designed and leads the Teaching Advantage Program for doctoral candidates at QUT, which won the International Education Association of Australia’s Best Practice Award in 2015 and the QS Wharton Nurturing Employability Silver Award in 2019.

She is an active researcher in both the management discipline and in the scholarship of learning and teaching. Her recent journal articles focus on international perspectives on professional recognition and the impact of the Professional Standards Framework.
