The Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) recognises and rewards collaborative work that has had a demonstrable impact on teaching and learning. Introduced in 2016, the scheme highlights the key role of teamwork in higher education. See the winning teams below.

The LITEbox initiative is led by Drs Emma Rich and Jessica Francombe-Webb, Reader and Lecturer, Department for Health and Mr Rob Hyde, Audio Visual Manager, Computing Services and Mrs Sarah Williment, Head of Academic Skills Resources, Skills Centre.

The team is made up of nine people, nine different sets of knowledge and skills, brought together to design, implement and sustain the Global Engineering Challenge (GEC). Led by Trish Murray who is a Faculty (of Engineering) University Teacher specialising in teaching and learning.

The Integrated Engineering Programme (IEP) Team comprises a collective of four individuals with unique but complementary skill-sets, sharing a passion for collaborative, interdisciplinary, team-teaching to produce a new generation of engineering graduates.

The University of Bedfordshire team comprises of the core members of the Sustainability Forum (SF) which they formed in 2013.  It includes Tamara Ashley, Helen Connolly, David Jazani, Diana Pritchard and Nicholas Worsfold.

The IWISE (Institutional-wide approach to Improving Student Engagement) team is a cross-institutional team of 12 members, comprised of senior staff, students' union, professional services, and academics from seven disciplines areas. Aligned to the University's vision to transform lives, stretch minds, develop skills and raise ambitions, one of the key institutional priorities is to improve student retention and success (SRS).

STACK is a robust open-source mathematics assessment system which has been transformed from an innovative research project by a team of mathematics educators and IT professionals from three UK institutions. Its use has significantly enhanced the learning experience of thousands of students.

Dr John Wheeler, Associate Dean in the School of Law, Policing and Forensics, leads the team and has cross-University responsibility for overseeing developments with police forces. Many members of University staff have been closely involved in implementing experiential learning collaborations that have provided great opportunities for our students and have supported the core team.
Kingston University - Taking Race Live Project

Together academics Sonya Sharma (Sociology), Helen Julia Minors (Music), Sylvia Collins-Mayo (Sociology), Heidi Seetzen (Sociology), Elena Catalano (Dance), Colette Balmain (Media and TV) and Jackie Smart (Drama) have carried out the project Taking Race Live (TRL) with Student Partners at Level 5 and 6 at Kingston University.
Cardiff Metropolitan University CATE team

The core team is comprised of Chantelle, Cheryl and Dylan who work as lecturers within the Early Childhood Studies and Primary Education Studies programmes. The wider multidisciplinary team encompasses a number of areas from across the university including Estates, Campus Services, students, academic and administrative staff. The team works in partnership with our students, staff and wider community to enrich, inspire and enable holistic development through innovative practice within our natural environment.
Northern Centre of Photography, University of Sunderland

The NEPN team (Alexandra Moschovi, Carol McKay, Arabella Plouviez, Dave Harvey, Amanda Ritson) is based in the Northern Centre of Photography, University of Sunderland. With support from Arts Council England through Grants for the Arts, NEPN functions as a research and development agency for photography in the North East region. Since 2009, the team has commissioned a number of major new photography projects, as well as producing the region's first International Festival of Photography.
University of Liverpool CATE team

The Central Teaching laboratory (CTL) is the UK's first shared teaching laboratory for physical, environmental and archaeological sciences and is internationally acknowledged for innovation in undergraduate science education. Key to its success is the recognition that successful teaching and operations in a shared facility requires multi-disciplinary academic support.
Chinese Whispers CATE team

Chinese Whispers is a collaborative project involving academics from two disciplines (Music and Languages), diverse cultural backgrounds and international institutions (Tianjin Normal University and the Confucius Institute), various professions (e.g. a Beijing Choir Master, composers and music conductors, teacher trainers, technicians) and different stages of the educational journey (students, trainee and qualified teachers, lecturers and professors).
