The toolkit provides all the resources required to run a calibration workshop with for use in a department or across institutions to help discuss and create a shared understanding of the criteria used to assess student performances, leading to greater consistency in understanding and application of academic standards.

This resource contains:

  • An introduction to the toolkit with details of who it is designed for, its aims and methods.
  • The detailed programme for running the preliminary online stage and the workshop, including use of software, timings, instructions to delegates, resources and when to use the PowerPoint slides.
  • Three examples of final-year student assignments from the same module that focus on demonstrating the use of research in all fields of geography.
  • A set of amendable PowerPoint slides with notes for running the workshop.
  • A set of slides without notes for distributing to participants
  • An agreed mark for each example as determined by a panel of experienced examiners, and an explanation for the marks awarded. These reference the contextual information and external reference points (the latter included as annexes).
