Advancing women’s careers in STEMM: evaluating the effectiveness and impact of the Athena SWAN Charter

In 2013 ECU commissioned a team from Loughborough University to undertake a comprehensive, independent assessment of the impact and benefit of the Athena SWAN Charter on participating higher education institutions and on the wider sector.

The evaluation team were particularly interested in discovering differences across award levels and disciplines, and investigating the differences between members and eligible institutions that are not part of the Charter.

The final report contains recommendations for future development of the Athena SWAN Charter. ECU has issued a response to outline how we aim to address these recommendations.
