Assessment Symposium Feedback for Agency: the case of the Processfolio

A presentation by Dr Jayne Pearson, King's College London, from the Advance HE Assessment Symposium held on 24 October 2019.

This presentation reports on an assessment of academic writing on a preparatory course for international students at a UK university. Processfolio, an adaptation of the portfolio, allows students to present their journey of creating one research essay. Processfolio incorporates three levels of feedback- teachers’ advice through comments and dialogue; peer feedback through asynchronous Moodle fora; and self-evaluation by reflecting on their choices of folio artefacts. By foregrounding feedback as integral to the assessment, rather than a post-hoc event as in most formative-assessment practices, the processfolio incorporates different voices in the assessment process, emphasising a shared responsibility for assessment and feedback.
