This paper reports findings from a study of part-time students at 11 post-1992 Universities in the UK. The data was collected through an online survey and the paper reports an analysis of reasons for part-time study motivations for studying the student experience and areas of concern about the programmes.
It finds that the predominant reason for part-time study was that it allowed other commitments to be undertaken concurrently and that the main motivation was improving capabilities in the students' current employment. It reports generally positive responses for the 'student experience' but highlights feedback and funding concerns as problematic. It also finds concerns about programme organisation in terms of implementation and lack of availability of institutional services at the times when part-time students attended.
