Grimsby Institute - Design and implementation of a CBHE teaching learning and assessment framework - Strategic Excellence Initiative

What the project is?

The Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education has a sustained record for delivery of good quality teaching learning and assessment. This is evidenced in past Ofsted inspections of GIFHE and separately in inspection of its initial Teacher Training provision.

However the scope to develop from Good to Outstanding as an education provider is consistently a focused area for development.

The Institute follows a “Learner First” vision and is committed to a journey towards Outstanding which must be supported by a quality framework to underpin improvements in teaching and learning.

The aim of the project is to re-design and implement a new teaching learning and assessment framework which clarifies what Good and Outstanding teaching and learning is in the CBHE provision.

What the project hopes to achieve?

The general aims of the new teaching learning and assessment framework are as follows:

  • To make explicit what the indicators are of sound practice in teaching learning and assessment at GIFHE thoroughly in alignment with Chapter B3 of the UK Quality Code the UKPSF and Ofsted’s Common Inspection Framework
  • To define what ‘going beyond the threshold standard’ is by making explicit the foundations of Outstanding teaching learning and assessment in CBHE
  • To create a formula for Outstanding teaching learning and assessment in CBHE
  • To develop teaching practice at the University Centre in alignment with existing expectations
  • To create new models of teaching learning and assessment through recognition of the unique nature of practice in CBHE
