My pedagogical approach is analogous to the building of a house: a solid foundation of knowledge supports walls of inspiration and responsibility which uphold a ceiling of skills before the learner steps outside this box to build a gable roof of evaluation and creation. From writing a single lecture to designing a curriculum for an entire course from planning an assessment for a small group to managing the workload of massive cohorts all of my teaching activities are aligned to this structure. This report will introduce my House of Learning model of teaching with specific examples of practice. I will present the basic premise of this model in story-telling form before outlining each structure with explanations for how it relates to all other structures and supporting research from pedagogy and psychology. Finally I will provide some real-world examples from my own teaching practice to illustrate the model in action.
