Illuminating pedagogy through experiential knowledge

In his role Joe coordinates service user and carer involvement in the social work curriculum and during his time at Queen’s he has had a lead role in pioneering innovative ways to facilitate social work students in their understanding of troublesome pedagogy. His approach is centred on working alongside service users and carers in helping students understand difficult and challenging topics such as the impact of political conflict social work values and international social work. This chapter illuminates these examples and offers guidance to colleagues in their attempts to meaningfully engage with experiential knowledge.
