To investigate good practice in assessing culturally diverse groups of postgraduate students in module assessments including assessment technologies

This presentation was delivered at the joint HEA/UKCISA Internationalisation of Pedagogy and Curriculum in Higher Education Conference that took place at the University of Warwick on 16th and 17th June 2011.

This presentation details a study that focused on understanding student profiles and exploring the challenges experienced by different profile categories in full-time postgraduate study based on the experience of Caledonian Business School (CBS). The aim is to listen learn and understand both the familiar and the unfamiliar voices in this relatively new diverse classroom context with view to enhance the effectiveness of the students learning process and journey.

The final insights gained from this study will be invaluable in the short-term to shape the Learning support mechanisms required by students in diverse cultural classroom context and enable staff to better manage the classroom dynamics. Results from this study will directly feed into Induction and transition programmes as well as Learning & Teaching methods used in post-graduate programmes and modules. In particular it will be disseminated though Glasgow Caledonian University and through the HEA network.
