Supporting External Examiners on Architecture Courses in UK Universities [Briefing Guide No. 07]

These guides are designed to provide guidance related to the role of external examiners on architecture courses in the UK. They clarify recent changes to arrangements for professional recognition by ARB and the RIBA and address the specific issues of studio-based teaching and assessment not dealt with in other material.

The guides have been developed by SCHOSA (Standing Conference of heads of Schools of Architecture) and CEBE (Centre for Education in the Built Environment) in consultation with external examiners teachers of architecture university registrars and representatives of ARB and the RIBA.

Three separate guides are available for download:

  • Guide 1: For External Examiners from both academic and practice backgrounds
  • Guide 2: For heads teachers and administrators in schools of architecture
  • Guide 3: For University Registrars and Quality Assurance Personnel

Supplement: Supporting equality of opportunity and widening student participation
