Background

University of Business and Technology (UBT) Saudi Arabia has grown gradually and progressively from a Junior College to a fully-fledged Four Year College of Business Administration (CBA) offering six programmes. On May 22nd 2012 UBT was officially announced as the University of Business and Technology by the Higher Council of the Saudi Higher Education. UBT has become a university in a short period of only 12 years. It has c.8 000 students and 200 faculty staff.

The Brief

UBT requested a curriculum review of six programmes including Marketing Management Information of Systems Accounting Finance Supply Chain Management and Human Resource Management. Their focus was providing students with a more interactive and effective learning experience developing the skills required by local employers.

Our approach

The HEA’s approach was to:

  • Conduct a review of the current curriculum and assessment policies and procedures
  • Present the findings and recommendations to UBT staff face to face meetings with staff and visit to UBT. These included the development of new assessment tools and teaching methodologies
  • Run a follow-up workshop to assist UBT with the implementation of the HEA recommendations

Outcomes

  • A clear action plan for the development of new curricula designed to provide students with higher quality learning outcomes which it is expected will lead to higher satisfaction better retention and improved employability skills and an increased international reputation;
  • Teaching staff inspired by latest teaching methodologies and assessment tools which it is anticipated will lead to more effective learning outcomes for students
