Welcome to a series of three focus pieces on placement provision. These have all been commissioned through a wider piece of consultancy work undertaken with Nottingham Trent University and include a perspective on placements by Nottingham Trent University Ulster University and Leeds Trinity University. We express our thanks and gratitude to all three universities who have openly engaged in the review of their provision and for their desire to share this with the wider sector.
In this first piece Ulster University as a provider with a clear focus on placements provides a case study that will be of interest across the HE sector. Ulster University places employability and placements firmly within the boundaries of learning and teaching. This approach exemplifies the importance placed on work related opportunities and ensures that as much as possible placement provision is embedded within courses as opposed to being seen as separate or in addition to the curriculum.
