Dr Abdullahi Arabo champions inclusive pedagogy and content delivery, via contextualising teaching and learning materials that reflect topical issues, real-world scenarios, real industrial data, and the student cohorts. Using this ethos he provides an inclusive environment that brings out the best in each student and challenges them to achieve their full potential.

Dr Abdullahi Arabo's main focus is on multidisciplinary, industrial and practice-led research and teaching and learning within the domain of cyber science. He has a passion for inclusivity and an inclusive curriculum where each student and researcher are treated as an individual and are enabled to accomplish their potential and contribute to teaching and learning as well as the research community. He has worked with academics and support teams to empower diverse student cohorts, students with disabilities and other needs.

Dr Arabo started his academic career as a Research Fellow with the Oxford Internet Institute, the University of Oxford where he led multidisciplinary research between Oxford University and British Telecom, this was before completing his PhD. He then transitioned into teaching and learning while still involved in collaborative research and development in both pedagogy and practised lead research.

With his experience in both industry and academia, Dr Arabo's teaching and learning philosophy relies on making content relevant to topical issues. This allows students to develop and apply the expected learning outcomes of each session to real-world problems and context, hence staying abreast of issues within their domain. This has proved very effective, gaining positive feedback from students and peers.

Dr Arabo’s passion for inclusivity and rejection of the notion of “I cannot” and aiding students to understand that has earned him a reputation for trying out new things and determining what works and what does not. His opinion is widely sought after by peers nationally and internationally.

His teaching and learning within the field of Cyber Security has provided a wider influence and impact, by gaining both national and international recognition. He is an approved assessor for the National Cyber Security Centre (NSCS) degrees certifications, is recognised as a key player for enabling inclusivity and has been inducted into UWE’s Student Union’s Black Hall of Fame. He is also a recipient of the “Most Dedicated Cyber Professional Development Educator (UK)” award from the AI 2020 Cyber Security Awards. Internationally, Dr Arabo has been invited to teach and deliver seminars in other institutions as well as curriculum development and advice.
