Jane Wormald's primary focus is on redesigning university curricula to improve access and success in higher education in support of widening participation at the University of Huddersfield. Beginning an academic career late on, she is highly attendant to non-traditional access to HE.
She strongly promotes the formation of collaborative communities of learning, fostering of a sense of belonging across all our academic community right from the start of studies. The development of horizontal and vertical relationships across and between schools and services has produced much stronger bonds between staff and students.
Jane led a starting university initiative 'Flying Start' with an approach that values what our students bring to the university, builds relationships, scaffolds learning and welcomes and settles new students to university life and study. She has orchestrated work across the whole university in developing effective and exciting working relationships between academics and librarians, skills tutors, the Students' Union, wellbeing, disability and careers officers, so their work has become integral to the curriculum rather than add-on. New this year is an open access online 'Ready, Steady, Study' magazine-style resource for students and families in preparing for arrival at university.
Jane continues to be a course leader in the School of Education working with mid-career vocational professionals in achieving their first degrees.
