Mick Healey is Professor of Geography and Director (with Carolyn Roberts) of the Centre for Active Learning, a HEFCE-funded Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at the University of Gloucestershire, UK.  He is Senior Advisor for Geography to the HE Academy's Subject Centre for Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences.

He was Co-Director of a four year ESRC project on Disabled students learning in higher education. He was also co-director of a HE Academy project on Linking teaching and research through the disciplines and Academics  Experiences of Research and Teaching. He is currently Director (with Peter Childs) of a National Teaching Fellowship (NTF) Project on Undergraduate research.

His main interests are in linking research and teaching; undergraduate research and inquiry; the development of SoTL; active and independent learning; and supporting the learning of disabled students in HE.  In 2000 he was awarded a NTF in the first round.  In 2004 the Royal Geographical Society conferred on him the Taylor and Francis Award for contributions to the promotion of learning and teaching in higher education. In 2007 he was one of the first to be awarded a Senior Fellowship of the HE Academy.
